LinkedIn has long been known as the social media platform for professionals. It was a place to connect with colleagues, showcase skills and achievements, and network with potential employers. However, there's a growing trend on LinkedIn that is blurring the lines between work and entertainment!

⚡ Why have memes on LinkedIn becoming a thing?

For one, it's a way to stand out in a sea of content. 💻 With so many users posting articles and updates on a daily basis, it can be tough to get noticed. Memes, with their eye-catching visuals and humorous captions, can grab someone's attention and potentially lead to more engagement.

Another reason for the rise of memes on LinkedIn is the desire for authenticity. People are tired of the overly polished, corporate-speak that often dominates the platform. Memes, on the other hand, are usually raw and unfiltered, which can make them more relatable and approachable.

👉🏻 Our Head of Business Development, Anggie Salazar, brought this interesting topic to our attention, here’s what she thinks about the new LinkedIn:

🗣️ “I don’t know if you remember, but when LinkedIn started, there were no memes or family photos in it, the platform started being serious, and work-related, and that has shifted.

It is almost natural considering so many of us stopped going into the office in 2020, yet at the same time suddenly had so much more to say about work, the “content lines” got intertwined, and a lot of people started using LinkedIn the same way the use other social media, to talk about their day to day.

Even though dome 52 million users come to LinkedIn every week to look for jobs and submit roughly 230 million job applications a month, as the workplace and our relationship to it have changed over the past three years, LinkedIn wants to be a place where conversations about work, around work, or that used to happen at work take place. A veritable virtual water cooler.”

Her perspective has changed the way we perceive LinkedIn as a communication channel for the agency and for our clients as well.

⚡ Is LinkedIn becoming the new Instagram, a place for memes and personal content alongside work-related topics? It's hard to say for sure, but one thing is clear: the platform is evolving. As more and more people join LinkedIn, they're bringing their unique personalities and interests with them. And as long as that content is authentic, engaging, and relevant, there's no reason why it can't coexist with work-related topics on the platform
